N Sensor

The N sensor fitted on top of the tractor cab.

With the increasing environmental pressures farmers are now facing and a large percentage of the arable area in the UK now falling into Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZs) it is important that nitrates are used as effectively and efficiently as possible to gain the most from what is applied, whilst reducing any damaging environmental impacts.

These environmental issues, combined with the need for increasing gross margins and profitability has lead to more and more farmers opting to go down the precision farming route, to help deliver increased accuracy of crop inputs.

Crop input requirements fluctuate greatly between fields, but also vary widely within a field. The N Sensor is a site-specific management tool design to deliver precise levels of input according to the crop's requirements helping to both reduce environmental effects whilst maximising potential profit.

The benefits of using the N Sensor depend on the natural variability within fields. Farms with large soil variations or where fields have received organic manures are likely to see the greatest benefit from using the N sensor. The study shows what yield advantage you need for the N Sensor to be economically viable. If you would like a blank copy of the study to input figures for your own farm click the link below
